RULES & REGULATIONS.
1st.— The Library is open to the Public, gratuitously, on Monday and Friday Evenings, from Seven to Half-past Eight O'clock, and on Wednesday Morning, from Twelve to One o'clock, except Christmas Day, Good Friday, and Bank Holidays.
2nd.— The conditions under which books are lent from this Library are, that THE Borrower shall first obtain the signatures and addresses of two householders resident in the parish, who shall guarantee the safe return of the book, free from injury, or become responsible for its value, together with the amount of any fine
that may have been incurred if kept beyond the time SPECIFIED; SUCH GUARANTEE TO BE DELIVERED TO THE LIBRARIAN BY THE APPLICANT IN PERSON. IF TWELVE MONTHS SHALL HAVE ELAPSED BETWEEN THE DUE RETURN OF THE BOOK LENT AND THE APPLICATION FOR ANOTHER, THEN A FRESH VOUCHER MUST BE PRODUCED, AS ON THE FIRST APPLICATION. THE LIBRARIAN WILL CAREFULLY EXAMINE, OR CAUSE TO BE EXAMINED. EACH BOOK RETURNED, AND IF THE SAME BE FOUND TO HAVE SUSTAINED ANY DAMAGE OR INJURY, OR HAVE BEEN RENDERED OF LESS VALUE BY BEING SOILED OR WRITTEN IN, THE LIBRARIAN SHALL REQUIRE THE PERSON TO WHOM THE BOOK WAS DELIVERED, OR THE HOUSEHOLDERS ON WHOSE GUARANTEES IT WAS LENT, TO PAY THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE OR INJURY DONE, OR OTHERWISE TO PRODUCE A NEW COPY, OF EQUAL VALUE, AND IN THE LATTER CASE, SUCH PERSON SHALL BE ENTITLED TO THE DAMAGED COPY ON DEPOSITING THE NEW ONE.
SRD.~ALL APPLICATIONS FOR BOOKS TO BE MADE IN WRITING. "EXCHANGING BOOKS
with other readers, or lending them to other persons, strictly prohibited;" and no person is allowed to take any book from the shelves except by permission of the librarian, to whom is committed the general charge of the library and safety of the books.
4th.— The Librarian shall have a discretionary power to refuse books to any applicant not of a suitable age to be instrusted with them, or to any reader who shall neglect to comply with the rules and regulations of the library.
5th.— Readers are requested—
To deliver their BOOKS TO THE LIBRARIAN IN THE ORDER IN WHICH
they enter the library.
to furnish a list, with their names attached, specifying the Class Letter. Catalogue Number, and Names of at least six books, in the order wished for, together with their library ticket, as no book can be lent without.
to erase from any list which has been used before, such works as have been previously read, as books cannot be changed twice on the same day.
to report to the librarian any injury which may occur to a book while in their possession. '

6th.— Readers are cautioned aqainst losino their Tickets, as thev are held
responsible for books taken out of the library with their tickets. if a ticket be
lost, immediate notice should be given to the librarian. the tickets lost can be
replaced at the expiration of a fortnight.
7th.— Readers leaving the neighbourhood, or ceasing to use the Library,
SHOULD return THEIR TICKETS IN ORDER TO HAVE THEIR GUARANTEES CANCELLED, OTHER- WISE THEY AND THEIR GUARANTEES WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BOOK TAKEN OUT IN THEIR NAMES.
8TH.— As THE BOOKS ARE INTENDED FOR THE GOOD OF ALL, IT IS EARNESTLY HOPED THAT THE READERS WILL ASSIST THE LIBRARIAN IN CARRYING OUT THE FOREGOING REGULA- TIONS.
